Q: Why doesn’t the V8.6.0 or earlier Installer’s View Readme button do anything on Fedora?
Problem
When I install V8.6.0 or earlier on Fedora, I press the View Readme button on the first panel (or the last panel) of the Installer but nothing happens.
Solution
The V8.6.0 or earlier Installer for VA Smalltalk invokes xterm to show the README file. This program isn’t installed by default on Fedora. You should install xterm before doing the VA Smalltalk install.
For Fedora 22 and later use this command to install xterm:
sudo dnf install xterm
For Fedora 21 and earlier use this command to install xterm:
sudo yum install xterm
Alternatively, you can browse cd_c/readme.txt or cd_m/readme.txt using an already-installed text file editor, or cd_c/readme.htm or cd_m/readme.htm using an already-install web browser.
