Q: Does WidgetKit Business Graphics need write access to initialize?
A: Yes. WidgetKit Business Graphics uses default.tdc to initialize. This file must itself be writeable and be located in a directory which is writeable by the VA Smalltalk application using WidgetKit Business Graphics.
Problem
WidgetKit Business Graphics, a Windows-based legacy add-on to VA Smalltalk, relies on a writeable template file (default.tdc) to initialize its graph.
In versions of Windows prior to Vista, the default level of security was permissive enough to permit the writing of a template. User Access Control, introduced as standard level of security in Vista, ceased to permit writing of files into the Program Files subdirectory and other directories typically found in the Path environment variable (which Wk Business Graphics uses to locate the default template.)
A typical sign that write permissions are preventing Wk Business Graphics from initializing correctly is a walkback during the drawing of the first graph.
Solution
Make sure the default template file, (default.tdc) shipped with the WidgetKit Business Graphics, is in the directory from which you launch VA Smalltalk image. This will ensure both that it is found and that it is in a writeable directory.
