Changing part names
A part's name and its label (if it has one) are different. The part's label is the text the user sees in the user interface The part's name is what VA Smalltalk uses to uniquely identify the part. When you add a part to the free-form surface (or within another visual part), VA Smalltalk automatically gives it a generic name, such as Text, Text1, or Label3. The name appears in the Status area of the Composition Editor when you select the part and when making connections to the part.
So that you can more easily identify the parts of your Investment application later, you can change the names of the parts to something more meaningful. For example, you can change the name of the Enter SSN Text part to Enter SSN Text and the name of the radio button set to Security Type Radio Button Set.
To change a part's name, do the following:
1. Select Change Name from the part's pop-up menu.
2. Type the new name of the part in the field.
Note:
You can also change a part's name in its Properties window. Double-click on the part to display its properties window and change the value of the partName property.
