Setting up an RPC/XDR conversation
To set up an RPC/XDR conversation, open the settings for the Proc Dialog part, then fill in the following fields on the Program Information page of the notebook:
Program Number
The program number the server uses to register with PortMapper.
Program Version
The version of the program that the server registers with Portmapper.
Procedure Number
The number of the server procedure the client wants to invoke. This number corresponds to which function the server will invoke when the request is received.
Fill in the following fields on the Network Information page:
Vendor
This field is a drop down list box of the RPC vendors currently supported on the specific platform.
Network Type
This field is a drop down list box of the network communications protocol supported by the selected vendor.
Server Name
The symbolic name of the server. If you prefer, you can specify the numeric IP address of the host instead of a symbolic name.
Fill in the following fields on the Data Attributes page:
Code page
The character code page used by the remote system. The default code page is the current code page for the system.
Buffer length
The size of the memory buffer VA Smalltalk allocates for the data sent to and received from the server. For a proc dialog, the buffer size must be at least as large as the total size of the record used by the remote program logic. The default value is 1024.
Big endian
A check box that determines the byte order for integers sent to the partner. If checked, the partner uses a BigEndian format; otherwise the partner uses LittleEndian format.
