Recovering work
VA Smalltalk stores work that you save in the image file (abt.icx) on your workstation and in the team's library. If a power failure or other cause shuts down VA Smalltalk, any work done after the last image-save will be lost from the image but will still exist in the library.
To ensure that you can recover your work if something happens to the team's library, have your team's administrator periodically make a backup copy of the library.
To recover the lost work, you browse editions of your work in the library and load the most recent edition into your image. Because the library stores all work that you do, you can recover changes to parts and source code from the library by completing the following sets of steps.
To restore your work, go to the Organizer, and select Make Image Consistent from the full Options menu. Selecting Make Image Consistent prints information on work done since the last image save to the System Transcript window.
If your image is inconsistent with the library, a Changes Browser opens on each inconsistent class. Using this browser, you can compare the class edition in your image with the editions in the library and, if needed, load the editions you want into your image.
To ensure that you have your most recent work loaded, you can further do the following:
•From the Applications menu, select Editions > Available Application.
•Select your application from the list that is displayed.
•In the displayed Application Editions window, select the application edition that you want to restore and select Load from the Editions menu.
•After the application loads, select Editions > More Recent Parts from the Parts menu.
•Select each part you want to reload. In the Class Editions Browsers that open, select the edition of the class you want and then select Load from the Classes menu.
