Recovering from crashes
This chapter describes the procedures to follow when either your image, your library file server, or EMSRV crashes. If your file server or EMSRV crashes, follow the procedure in Recovering from a file server or EMSRV crash. If your image crashes, follow the procedure in Recovering from image crashes. All users can follow these procedures to recover from a file server crash, though they are usually done by library supervisors. In addition, all users need to check the consistency of their images after the file server is running again.
Tips
To protect your investment in the code being developed in VA Smalltalk, you should protect the server on which your library runs by installing an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). A UPS can shut down the server if there is a power outage. You should also back up your library files frequently. When you back up files, ensure that they are closed. Backing up open files can result in an inconsistent record of your files.
