The Common File System also extends POSIX.1 to provide file stream protocols that conform to and extend those specified by the Blue Book. These protocols provide simplified buffered input and output, and are designed to cooperate with and complement the basic file protocols. In fact, the stream protocols themselves are implemented portably by using the base file protocols.
