Changing the settings of parts
Every part has specific characteristics that help define its default behavior and appearance. You change the settings of parts using the Properties or Settings windows.
Tip
By default, VA Smalltalk displays the Properties table windows, which list attributes whose values you can change by their Smalltalk names. To use the notebook-style Settings windows similar to those used for Version 3.0, load the configuration map VA Smalltalk, Settings Views. To return to the Properties windows, unload the configuration map or, in the Organizer, select Preferences from the Options menu, select Properties Table (Recommended) and then OK.
Using Properties or Settings windows
To open the Properties or Settings window of a part, do any of the following:
Double-click on the part.
Select a part, then select Open Settings from the pop-up menu for the part.
Select a part, then select the properties button ( properties button) from the tool bar.
Properties windows
Properties windows list the attributes of a part that have settable values in a table. To change the value for a property, do as follows:
1. In the Name column, select the property.
2. In the Value column, specify a different value, such as true instead of false.
The part is updated with the new property value when you change a property's value and click anywhere outside of the value cell for the property you just changed or close the supplementary dialog used to change the part's property.
Settings windows
Settings windows use a notebook control with several tabs and pages to display the part's settings information. Here are some tips for navigating through the tabs and pages of the notebook control of the Settings window:
To switch between the tabs of a notebook, select one of the tabs below the pages.
When there are more tabs than what can fit across the bottom of the notebook, small double left and right arrow push buttons are displayed to the left and right of the tabs. Select these buttons to move through the available tabs.
To switch between the pages of a notebook, use the small left and right arrow buttons at the bottom right of each page.
When a tab has more than one page associated with it, the page number and total number of pages within the tabs are displayed at the bottom of the page.
Select OK or Apply to apply changes to the settings.
Additional information about the individual settings of a part can be found in the following places:
The online Visual Parts Reference.
The online help facilities, which you can access by selecting F1 or the Help push button on the Settings window.
