Mike Taylor, President and CEO and co-founder, has a 25+ year career in the software industry, with extensive senior management experience in the enterprise software development and Java software tools arenas. Extremely active in the Eclipse Foundation, Mike has been an Add-in Elected Board member since 2005. Mike leads the Market Research and Advertising Working Groups which support Eclipse-related activities such as EclipseCon, open-source projects, demo camps, webinars, committees and more. Mike has founded several high tech companies in addition to Instantiations, serving as Vice President of Professional Services at Digitalk and ParcPlace-Digitalk, both leading companies in the Smalltalk arena. He holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Washington.
Dan Rubel, CTO and co-founder, is an expert in the design and application of object-oriented technologies. Dan brings more than 15 years of commercial software development experience, including ten years of experience with Java and six years with Eclipse. He is the primary architect and product manager for several successful commercial products including RCP Developer, WindowTester, and RCP Packager, and has played key design and leadership roles in other commercial products such as WindowBuilder Pro, VA Assist, and CodePro Studio. He has co-founded a successful company and is a sought-after speaker at industry conferences. Specialties: Eclipse product development including code analysis and RCP construction tools at Instantiations. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bucknell and is co-author of the popular book, Eclipse Plug-ins (formerly Eclipse: Building Commercial-Quality Plug-ins), part of the Addison Wesley Eclipse Series.
Steve Messick, CIO and co-founder, has been using cutting-edge software technology to solve problems for over 25 years. He has been a leader in the development and adoption of object-oriented technology since his initial exposure to Smalltalk in 1983. In 1997, Messick co-founded Instantiations and has been an instrumental part of the technical staff as a core contributor to the CodePro product line and as a senior consultant on major enterprise development projects. Steve is an expert in application delivery technology and Java and Smalltalk language implementation. Prior to Instantiations, Messick worked at Digitalk and ParcPlace-Digitalk, and was a senior engineer with Tektronix. In his previous position at Digitalk, he developed the event system and application framework used by Smalltalk/V Mac 2.0 and Visual Smalltalk. Steve holds a BSEE and BA degrees from Ohio Northern University, and a Masters degree in space physics from the University of Alaska. He is also a published author and patent holder.
Eric Clayberg, Sr. Vice President of Product Development and co-founder, iis a seasoned software technologist, product developer, entrepreneur, and manager. Eric has more than 18 years of commercial software development experience, including 11 years of experience with Java and eight years with Eclipse. He is the primary author and architect of more than a dozen commercial Java and Smalltalk add-on products including WindowBuilder Pro, CodePro AnalytiX, and the award winning VA Assist Enterprise product lines. Previously, Eric was a founder and Executive Vice President of Objectshare Systems, Inc. and Vice President of Development for ParcPlace-Digitalk. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT, an MBA from Harvard, and has co-founded two successful software companies. He is also co-author of the popular book, Eclipse Plug-ins (formerly Eclipse: Building Commercial-Quality Plug-ins), part of the Addison Wesley Eclipse Series.
Mark Johnson, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, has been with Instantiations nearly since its inception, managing business partnerships and all marketing functions, including campaigns, public relations, advertising, events and communications. An active participant in the Eclipse Foundation, Mark is former Chair of the Foundation's Public Relations Committee. With a 23+ year career in high tech, Mark has a proven track record in the areas of commercial software and hardware, telecommunications, networking and data processing. Prior to Instantiations, Mark was Strategic Marketing Manager for Intel, and held key engineering positions at both Novell and First Data Corporation. Mark earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Montana.
Chuck Shawan, Vice President of Sales, joined Instantiations early in the company's history, and brought with him an established track record of impressive sales and sales management performance, stemming from several years in high-tech and related industries. He is a proven sales professional and has been a significant contributor to the growth of Instantiations, as well as other high-tech, professional service organizations. Prior to Instantiations, Chuck was Director of Sales at Objectshare/ParcPlace-Digitalk, and Sales Supervisor at Creative Media Development, where he worked closely with the firm's high-tech clients. In an earlier career, Chuck was a Criminalist and Detective with the Oregon State Police, and previously the Cleveland Police Department, for a total of 14 years. Chuck has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and has done extensive post-graduate work in Forensics at the FBI Academy and the University of Virginia.
Ed Klimas, Vice President of Professional Services, has spent over thirty years in various positions in research and technology development and management, including fifteen years successfully growing a software engineering firm that developed mission-critical secure software systems. These systems were widely praised for their cost effectiveness and resultant quality. He is also a recognized lecturer and author of numerous object-oriented software engineering articles and co-author of the popular book, Smalltalk with Style. Ed has a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
