VA Assist Enterprise/G 4.5 Only

Installation

1. Exit VisualAge Generator if you have it running.
   
   
2. If you plan to use VisualAge Generator Patch 1, 2, 3 or 4, make sure to install it before installing VA Assist. Installing Patch 1, 2, 3 or 4 after installing VA Assist will effectively uninstall VA Assist and make it inoperable. Note that you must unload all VisualAge Generator Developer features before installing VisualAge Generator Patch 1, 2, 3 or 4. After installing Patch 1, 2, 3 or 4 only reinstall the VisualAge Generator Utilities (if you had it previously loaded) and VisualAge Generator features.
   
   
3. If you do not plan on installing VisualAge Generator Patch 1, 2, 3 or 4 then you must delete the VisualAge Generator Templates QuickStart and VisualAge Generator Templates features, if you have them loaded.
   
   
4. To install this release of VA Assist Enterprise/G you will need to download and install VA Assist Enterprise/J (at minimum, you should use v3.5). Follow the normal installation instructions for that product. If you are installing the VA Java 3.5.3 or 4.0 update and VisualAge Generator Patch 2, 3 or 4, please review the VA Assist FAQ for important 3.5.3/4.0 compatibility issues. Note that v3.5 requires a license key update. Contact your sales representative at 800-808-3737 or sales@instantiations.com.
   
   
5. Important! Backup your existing HPTvgj45.icx file. This file can be found in the \IDE\PROGRAM directory of your VisualAge Generator product. You will be replacing this file, so you will want to save it some place where you can easily find it. A simple option is to rename it to _HPTvgj45.icx (with a leading underscore).
   
   
6. Download and unzip:
   
   • VGA20_45.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 (6.39MB)
   • VGA20_45FP1.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 with FixPack 1 installed (6.85MB)
   • VGA20_45FP2.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 with FixPack 2 installed (6.36MB)
   • VGA20_45FP3.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 with FixPack 3 installed (6.66MB)
   • VGA20_45FP4.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 with FixPack 4 installed (6.34MB)
   • VGA20_45FP4FT06.ZIP file for VisualAge Generator 4.5 with FixPack 4 (FT06) installed (6.24MB)

   Make sure you download the correct version depending upon whether you have FixPack 1, FixPack 2, FixPack 3 or FixPack 4 (or neither) installed. Each contains a single file, HPTvgj45.icx.
   
   

7. Place this file in the \IDE\PROGRAM directory of your VisualAge Generator product installation replacing the original one supplied with the product.
   
   
8. You are now ready to restart VisualAge Generator and use the enhanced Parts Browser.
   
   
9. If you had the VisualAge Generator Templates QuickStart and VisualAge Generator Templates features loaded prior to installing the Parts Browser extensions you should re-install them at this point

Un-installation

To uninstall, simply replace the HPTvgj45.icx file with the original version and unload VA Assist Enterprise/J using the instructions here.
